Healthy Living, Enthusiastic Learning: PHBS Health Education Program for Students of SMPN 56 Jakarta
Jakarta, May 29, 2024 – RSKO Jakarta's Health Promotion Unit (PKRS) conducted a health education program at SMPN 56 Jakarta for seventh-grade students as part of efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent risky behaviors among adolescents.
A total of 304 students participated in the health education session.
The beginning of the academic year is an important period for new students to become familiar with their school environment, learning culture, and positive values that support academic success and personal development. During this stage, it is essential for junior high school students to receive education on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), combined with awareness of the dangers of drug abuse.
PHBS in schools aims to empower students, teachers, and the school community to understand, adopt, and actively practice healthy behaviors, thereby contributing to the creation of a healthy school environment.
Why Is Health Education Important?
Implementing PHBS in schools helps establish a healthier learning environment and promotes the well-being of the entire school community.
A healthy school environment supports physical and mental health, fosters positive behavior, and contributes to students' optimal growth, development, and academic achievement through promotive and preventive health efforts.
Key PHBS Messages Delivered During the Session
The education program emphasized the following healthy behaviors:
- Purchasing food only from healthy and approved school canteens.
- Washing hands with soap and running water.
- Using clean and hygienic school toilets.
- Preventing mosquito breeding by eliminating mosquito larvae.
- Disposing of waste in designated bins.
- Participating in sports and regular physical activities.
- Maintaining a smoke-free school environment.
- Avoiding the use of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and other addictive substances (NAPZA).
The session was facilitated by RSKO Jakarta Health Educators Wage Robbiamsyah, SKM and Euis Sayyidah, AMD.
The educational materials were specifically tailored to the age and developmental stage of seventh-grade junior high school students. In addition to animated educational videos, the program utilized interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and educational games with prizes for active participants.
